Sit down, relax, grab a cup of Joe...

This is my place on the web where I'm going to be discussing what all is going on in my garden spaces. I am a container gardener for the most part and I am constantly having problems with pests, growing problems, pots, etc. I'm hoping to get feedback and advice from friends, family, and general passers by, and maybe pass on a little info here and there about plants in general!

A few pictures of Spring!

Greetings folks!

Not much to report today, not really.

My small potted Indian Hawthorne Plant.  The variety is
called "Pinkie"
A couple of weeks back I took some snapdragon seeds and a few pete pellets to my Mom in the nursing home and we had a good time sowing them.  It was extra special because I had harvested the seeds from the snapdragons right in the Nursing Home's flower garden.  Four days later, about 100 of the little plantlets came up right in the windowsill of her room!  It was exciting...isn't that silly?

Hawthorne mixed with Livingstone Daisies
Last week we hit the point that we needed to get the darned things thinned out because they were fighting for space and killing each other.  I brought them home, and just a few minutes ago I planted them into actual peat pots, the cardboard type of pot that can be put directly into the ground if you wish.  After the thinning, I wound up with 12 pots of 2 plants each, or 24 individual healthy plants.   Now we have to do the waiting game and see if they survive the soil change since all I can afford right now is cheap Wal-Mart Potting mix.  It's been working pretty well for everything else so far, so I've got hope that the will survive long enough to make it into the ground this season.

Red Chrysanthemums from last fall are still
blooming!
Other than that, I've been pretty lazy since the planting of the new flower bed in the front yard.  Yesterday I did get out and take a few photographs of some flowers that are blooming in their containers right now.  You've probably noticed them already scattered throughout this post and on my facebook page if you're a friend of mine of facebook.

One item of note:  The Plumeria is starting to make leaf spikes!  I have been so worried about that!  I purchased two of them last year from a little nursery up the street called "Chickenfarmers," (they've since gone out of business) and they weren't much more than sticks set in soil when I first purchased them.  All last year they only produced one leaf at a time, but looking at the spikes this year it looks as if I may just get a branch or something, because there are actually three leaf spikes cropping up on one of the plants now!  Exciting for me!!

I'll keep you posted as the changes continue.  Until then...

Happy Gardening!

PS...I have a favor.  If you read my blog here and enjoy the photos or the stories that I post, please give me a +1 on Google?  I'd love to have a few more readers, and the plus's will help me make that happen!  Thanks!

New Flower Bed in Front Yard

Heya Folks.

This year I've decided to put a flower bed into the front yard.  It's going to be difficult because we have so many garbage trees out there (3 Chinaberry tree's et.al) and they tend to block up the sunlight as well as leave litter all over the ground out there.  I've talked the Apartment Manager into allowing me to keep some of the tree limbs cut back though, so this might be successful...we'll see.

Not much to look at right now.
This flower bed is not much to look at right now, but when I started it was little more than a huge tray of sand and what seemed to be fill dirt from a dump site.  I found more old plastic toys, pieces of foil and cellophane everywhere I dug!  I added two and a half bags of steer manure to it, and we'll see what happens.  I planted Gerber Daisies, Three varieties of Snapdragons (all tall types) and six little Stock plants.  All along the back it's lined with the Purple Datura that I grow so well.  These are the ones that I started from seed last year, so I'm hoping for a good turnout.

Did you notice the gnomes?  Those were a Christmas Present from my Dad year before last.  Aren't the just the coolest thing?  I'm sure that they'll move around depending on what places need the most tending throughout the growing season.  I'll post more photos as things progress...so stay tuned!

Happy Gardening!
